We could not have imagined a year ago that we would be unable to gather again in person to celebrate the accomplishments of and raise funds for our beloved Bikur Cholim of Manhattan. We turn to you, as a loyal sponsor, to help us meet our financial goals this year despite unprecedented circumstances so that we may continue our vital mission.
Your generosity and our selfless volunteers, enable Bikur Cholim of Manhattan to provide care, giving and hope to our Manhattan and global Jewish communities in the height of medical crisis. Our welcoming and beautifully furnished apartments near Mount Sinai Hospital are consistently in use as a respite for hundreds of patients and their family members. Tens of thousands of dollars are distributed monthly to cover financial expenses for health needs, including doctor appointments, medical procedures and therapy sessions. Monthly senior social gatherings are replaced with weekly phone conferences featuring engaging speakers and meaningful conversation. Food packages are distributed weekly to those who find it difficult to acquire and prepare food.
Our success is evidenced not only by immense positive feedback, but also by the many requests for our apartments and medical funding which cannot be accommodated. Bikur Cholim of Manhattan will launch its first virtual fundraising campaign on December 29th with the goal of covering our annual budget and funding additional apartments and critical health care needs.
We will pay tribute during the campaign to the memory of our cherished community leader, Rabbi Joseph Karasick, a”h. Rabbi Karasick, with the encouragement of his wife, Pepa, a”h, played a visionary role in the formation and development of many major Jewish organizations. He was highly respected and beloved as a man of principle, natural leader, eloquent speaker, erudite rabbinic scholar, successful businessman and friend. His family perpetuates his legacy with its uniquely deep commitment to and unwavering support of the Bikur Cholim of Manhattan, among myriad other organizations.
We will also honor our extraordinary community frontline medical and health care professionals whose selfless devotion has saved countless lives and inspired us all.
With financial requests coming in daily, with our apartments in such high demand and with coronavirus still keeping our seniors homebound and alone, it is our mission to further our impact and provide more care, giving and hope.
